From bobby car to tree surgeon: William, welcome to the team!

Time flies and every year seems to go by faster. Perhaps you remember our video from the 2010 climbing championships at Schloss Dyck? Back then, Alexander and Kevin were competing with the world’s best professional tree climbers. The younger siblings watched spellbound and at the end of the video William drove his bobby car through the grounds.

14 years later, William is once again out and about with his brothers and often with me too. This time in the company car on the way to a customer appointment. At the beginning of last year, William started his training as a tree surgeon and European Treeworker.
It’s great to see how William benefits from the wealth of experience of his brothers Kevin, Alex and Luke, just as I was able to share my experience with my now grown-up sons at the start of their careers. Even today, we still regularly make time for this important exchange of experience. And our customers are happy with us as our family business grows. I have often been asked about this during my consultancy appointments, which I continue to do to support the boys. Thank you very much for your interest and sympathy!
Each of the brothers has specific topics that particularly fascinate them about trees and tree care. For William, it is the interaction between trees and fungi. The honey fungus, for example, is a very dangerous fungus for many trees. What’s more, this fungus can reproduce particularly well in dead wood.
Another, but very valuable fungus is the mycorrhizal fungus. It forms a symbiotic relationship with the tree roots and supplies the tree with nutrients and water. Whenever it makes sense, we use the mycorrhiza fungus in a targeted manner to support weakened trees in a natural and effective way.
As always, it depends on the trained eye of the tree expert to make the right diagnosis, to provide certainty and to be able to care for and maintain a tree in the best possible way.
Time may move fast and some things may change – but the close relationship with our customers remains. Many valuable friendships have developed over the years. By the way, there is equally great news about my daughters Alyson and Emily and their involvement in our family business. More about that next time.
